Promoting Miniatures Games via Organized Play

Many companies that produce miniatures and/or sustain the development of games based on them are taking different measures in order to promote their products. One of these measures is to help the community of players in learning the games they produce. In this respect, a central measure is to organize play through demo games as well as tournament games. A whole network is created and this is really needed especially in such a globalized environment. For all these activities of course the companies need to have someone to be able to organize them (in different countries and different places). In this issue, many companies have developed special programs to train specialized ”workforce”, in fact in many times volunteers (there are some voices that regard them as being ”rules nazy”, 100% geeks), addict of games, but first of all devoted to the respective game and community of players. Examples of such programs are Henchmen from Wyrd Games, especially for Malifaux and Warcors from Corvus Belli, for Infinity. Demo games and tournament games although they are both organized play and help to promote a particular game are also different. The objective in a demo game, is of course to learn the basics of a game, while in tournament game you strive to be the best among different players. But about these in a later article.
