A note on painting and photos: they are just a
step in what I wish them to be. The photo camera I used is not that good and
the painting done needs to be improved, especially at adding details. But hey, they
are microminiatures, so for any photo camera or painter is not an easy task to
do something great out of them. This is why there are not too many pictures for
microminiatures in general and especially for 3mm miniatures (and here is one of my contributions to the hobby).
As you have figured out, it is very hard to
paint such models and to catch the wished details. In fact, many of the
microminiatures are not designed to be watched from up close (sic!), it is a
custom to use 3 feet/1 meter approach for the sake of the self-esteem of the
painter/wargamer using them. Also, at 3mm size (1/600 scale) it is hard for the
human eyes to see the miniature, let alone the details. See also my more developed notes
on painting 3mm miniatures.
So why do we like 3mm miniatures? For the
pleasure of painting, curiosity and because they do look pretty well and even
more good from a distance. In terms of a wargame, it adds a truthfulness to the
game rules especially for WW2, Modern, Sci-Fi etc. or it catches better the
feel of great war operations (mass effect). So, keep calm, paint, take photos,
and watch my blog, as there is always something to improve!
