Designed by Mike Hutchinson and published by Osprey Games in 2019, Gaslands: Refuelled is a revised and expanded edition of the 2017's Gaslands. It is like a director's cut for Gaslands comprising all previously published four expansions, plus additional materials, but is not a second edition of the game, because all the core rules remain the same, with some revisions regarding activating and passing, crew, weapons and upgrades, sponsors and perks.
I have read the rules, they are clearer now, but still you need to practice them. In the rulebook there is a joke printed after the moving, final position and collisions and stuff related something like, congratulations you have a PhD in Gaslands. But as I found out, it is only half a joke, the other half implies constantly reading some parts of the rules, and placing templates and moving vehicles, and reading rules and ... This game has quite a steep learning curve. Granted, you can make it (play with it) as simple or as complex as you like, and here this book shines as it is module-based, so you can introduce new rules if you want. Still, moving the vehicles and the many things that can happen once the starting flag has been showed means you have to be a little patient with the game. I have to get more plays to see how firing works and how the game feels after some more plays. I like it, but I need to be patient with it.
You can play Gaslands as a simulation of Nascar race or as Destruction Derby videogame or as Carmageddon videogame or as Car Wars boardgame or something to mirror the 1975's movie Death Race 2000 (itself based on a short story of Ib Melchior called The Racer) or if you like it, the 2008's remake of this movie. All of these could mean good reasons to try the game. Whether you are in for sportsmanship or for bloodlust and "metallust" then this game is for you.
Here are some images for my test drives with Gaslans: Refuelled played with 6mm miniatures - civilian cars from GZG. At the time of writing, there are not too many examples of 6mm sci-fi civilian cars.
