Silicate Army

Continuing the work from a past project, Minerals and Crystals, and inspired by a Star Trek TOS episode, welcome to the Silicate Army! Next follows a short mix between fluff and a description of how these miniatures for 6mm wargaming were made.

Description

In war, the Silicate Army will do just about good as any other alien beings for 6mm miniatures wargames. The Silicate Army is composed of heavy units as seen in Minerals and Crystals, but also from light units.

The Order of Battle

This is human equivalent as we can only grasp a little the true organization of Silicate Army. So, from what was observed until now, a battlegroup is composed of:

6 x workers platoon, each composed of 3 teams, with different ”firepower” and effects, 2 platoons are lead by a lieutenant, and each lieutenant gets its commands from the battlegroup commander; all are equivalent to infantry.

1 x light crystals unit, equivalent to light vehicles (soft vehicles), independent units.

1 x heavy crystals unit, equivalent to heavy vehicles, tanks, independent units.

3 x artillery platoons, each composed of 3 teams, lead by a lieutenant.

Firepower and effects

When confronting a Silicate Army expect the unexpected. Movement rates are variable and so is the firepower and special effects. Radioactive, psionic, plasma and fire attacks have been observed. By others, not affected by them. Also, earthquakes and something similar to a volcanic eruption but on a small scale was encountered. Once, from a very long distance, by someone who actually survived and told the story. Human and machines alike are affected. Anomalies such as something similar to electronic warfare was also observed. Silicate Army can be defeated if a concentration of firepower is applied.

From what it is made?

Some are made from Green Stuff small and big crystals, other from cheap and very cheap crystals, while others are simply made with glitter glue. All were glued on small, medium and large base, at least for 6mm. Then the base was filled with putty and painted.

Conclusions

So there you go! It was very fun to finish this project and we just need to do a play test.

This method of mixing the story and the description of production phases was preferred because these miniatures are in fact not some aliens with guns or clearly identified vehicles or other weapons and you may work a little for this army to come true on the battlefield. It is up to you to lead this army to glory and it is your opponent's peril if he takes this army as an understatement!

And you? What ”crazy” aliens do you use in your wargames?
