I wanted to make a monster truck from some time now for my 6mm sci-fi collection. For me a monster truck has at least one simple characteristic: big wheels compared to the attached hull.
So I took as a base the Hemtt Heavy Wheeled Cargo Truck from GZG and added the wheels from V15-101A Heavy Missile Battery on 4-wheel trailer, a miniature from the 15mm range Stargrunt, also from GZG. Hemtt comes with a flat bet as I needed and the other miniature with a towing hitch, three missiles and a 4-wheel trailer. Looking at the components from this Heavy Missile Battery I decided to do a mobile missile launcher. I wanted to keep the missiles not glued in order to be able to show the use of them to easily keep track in the heat of battle, but also to use them for other projects, like a ”simple” nuclear or other sort of missile to use in wargaming, but this time from a fixed launching platform. The missiles were simply painted red (Flat Red 957 from Vallejo - I plan on doing later a new paint job, keeping the red as the main color), while the platform and Hemtt in a camo green (Retractive Green 890, Russian Uniform 924, Lime Green 827, all paints from Vallejo). The windscreen is painted with Gunmetal Grey 863 while the wheels with a simple Black 950, both paint from Vallejo. The platform is only a part from the 4-wheel trailer. The other part I will use for another project. To the platform I have attached (prepared, glued and painted) some green stuff to make a good base for the platform in order to stay on the Hemtt, but be completely removable. Why red for the missiles if care was put into the camo monster truck? Do you know how some reptiles are covered in colors like yellow or red, quite distinguishable in the environment they are in? It is also as a defence mechanism. Think of it as a warning sign that reads ”I am dangerous”. And these missiles certainly qualify in this category.
Only after I have finished the project, the idea came on how to name it: LtS. It stands for land-to-space missiles. The 15mm missiles are quite big and also the Hemtt (more like a 8-10mm miniature) for 6mm, but they work very fine for their purpose. After all, you will need some big missiles to destroy from land a space dreadnought, but it is doable, of course at a certain range :) enough to make you feel comfortable from your tiny base on a remote planet, when a great space armada rages towards you. The Monster Truck was named ”Bilby”, not much things to say here, and at last, the ”Mobile Platform” was added in the naming, to keep it easily identifiable.
So there you have it! Land-to-Space Missiles from Bilby Monster Truck Mobile Platform brought to you by Paint. Play. Repeat!
